Medical Biotechnology Program
The National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) have jointly organized the Medical Biotechnology Program, offering masters and doctoral courses, with the purpose of promoting industrial development and raising the academic standards in the surrounding Hsinchu area. From the establishment of the Institute of Molecular Biology in 1973, presided over by Academician Zhen-Zhong Yang, to the establishment of the College of Life Science in 1991, academia and research were key catalysts in boosting biotechnology in Taiwan, as many professionals in the field were recruited during and since this time. In 2002, the College of Life Science was restructured into a department and four Institutes: the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology, the Institute of Molecular Medicine, the Institute of Bioinformatics and Structural Biology, and the Institute of Biotechnology. Each of the four Institutes offers graduate programs (Master and Ph.D.) in a variety of research areas. The NHRI is a top research institution in medical biotechnology, with numerous outstanding experts spread across different disciplines, and has collaborated intimately with NTHU after relocating to the Chunan area in 2004. The international competiveness of the Medical Biotechnology Program will undoubtedly be enhanced through the cooperation between the NHRI and four institutes of the College of Life Sciences.
